The Shape of Time
The Notch Single Malt Whisky stands as the crown jewel of Triple Eight Distillery, a pioneering distillery on Nantucket Island. Since its first release in 2008, The Notch has earned international acclaim for its balance, complexity, and enduring elegance. Each expression reflects the character of Nantucket’s coastal air, shifting breezes, and the ocean’s tempering influence.
Shaped by these natural forces and refined through patient cask maturation, The Notch is a single malt defined by place, precision, and quiet beauty. Crafted using pure island aquifer water and heirloom grains, including rare floor-malted Maris Otter barley, it captures both the refined and the wild edges of the island, resulting in a whisky that is unmistakably its own.
Tasting Notes
12 Year (Flagship)
The signature expression of The Notch shows a deep reddish hue and opens with orchard fruits—pear, apple—and soft florals. The palate carries warm herbal spice notes such as cardamom and grains of paradise, finishing with dark chocolate, cocoa nibs, sea-salt air, and light toffee. Elegant and warming, it carries no smoke influence.
8-Year (Wine-Barrel Finish)
Finished in lightly re-toasted wine barrels, the 8-Year offers soft red berries and subtle oak on the nose. Its palate is dry and slightly tannic with juicy, wine-driven fruit and lively texture, creating a mouthwatering, vibrant whisky perfect enjoyed neat or as a refined highball.
15-Year (Sherry Finish)
The richest expression in the range, the 15-Year delivers layered notes of dried fruit, rancio, nougat, roasted peanut brittle, and dark chocolate. Thick and viscous, it lingers with toasted nuts, warm spice, and an indulgent sweetness—a luxurious conclusion to the tasting journey.

About Triple Eight Distillery

Triple Eight Distillery is a family-owned, independent producer on Nantucket, dedicated to crafting exceptional spirits shaped by the island’s distinct environment. Founded in the 1990s with an ethos rooted in authenticity rather than scale, the distillery blends tradition, experimentation, and a deep sense of place. The name “888” reflects the balance, precision, and craftsmanship that define every spirit they create.

Each whisky begins with pure Nantucket aquifer water and heirloom grains, including rare floor-malted Maris Otter barley. From careful fermentation to slow, ocean-tempered maturation, Triple Eight’s process is intentionally hands-on, allowing the island’s climate—its maritime breezes, shifting temperatures, and coastal air—to shape the final character. Every expression reflects both the natural elements and the meticulous cask work that guide it.

The distillery’s identity is shaped by the partnership of Founder and Master Blender Randy Hudson and Head Distiller Bryan Jennings. Randy blends an artist’s sensibility with decades of fermentation expertise, while Bryan brings scientific precision through his background in genetics, chemistry, and physics. Together, they create spirits that balance creativity, rigour, and a deep respect for Nantucket’s unique conditions.
